Twain Country Candles

For years we’ve invited you to “Feel the Magic at the Christmas House and now we invite you to “Smell the Magic too!

We are excited to introduce our new custom line of 12oz Country Jar Candles that we’ve named Twain Country Candles in recognition of one of our best known visitors to the area (and he’s still here!). Each candle scent is related to Mark Twain, Soaring/Aviation, Wine or one of the many other people or attractions that remind you of this area of the Finger Lakes Wine region: Mark Twain Country in Elmira, New York. In the fall, we will also release a limited edition scent each month that is available that month only, will cost just $10.00 with no quantity buy-in needed for the great price, and only while supplies last!

Regular Scents

($12.50 each or 2/$20.00)

  • Livy’s Home Baked Sugar Cookies—The scent of fresh-baked sugar cookies, without turning on the oven! Named after Olivia Langdon Clemens, the wife of Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain). Olivia, born in Elmira, New York to wealthy parents in the coal business, first met Sam Clemens in 1867 through his relationship with her brother Charles. Their first date was to New York City to hear a reading by Charles Dickens. They became engaged in November of 1868 (after rejecting the offer two months earlier) and married in February of 1870.
  • Klapproth’s Saloon (Leather and Tobacco)---The perfect fragrance for the man’s room (the den…not the garage!!!). Augustus Klapproth’s saloon is often said to be the place where Sam Clemens was REALLY going when he went into town to “do his banking”.
  • Huck’s Berry Jam—We don’t know how many berries this scent takes (or from whose garden Huck got them from), but it must be bushels! We’re thinking he might also have had help from the Widow Douglas or Miss Watson to have accomplished this task.
  • Becky’s Nut Bread is “Fresh from the Oven”…and ours is a delicious no-calorie version of an old favorite! Judge Thatcher certainly would have rather had Becky baking bread than chasing with Tom Sawyer all over town!
  • Wine Country Grape Spritz---The memory of your visit to Finger Lakes Wine Country can now linger in the air at home…and of course it’s purple in color too!
  • Auntie Cord’s Crisp Clean Cotton Sheets---Before dryers….before fabric sheets….ahhhh…that clean cotton smell.
  • The Trolleymasters: Calorie Free Creme Brulee. Named in honor of “The Elmiran” Trolleymasters, Mark and Gary. “The Elmiran” offers one hour historical tours Tuesdays - Saturdays in July and August and is often considered the “best bargain in town”.
  • Soaring Scents: Harris Hill Breezes---The swish of a glider. The excitement and magic of air flight. Life doesn’t get much better than this…in the sky OR on the ground.
  • Aunt Polly’s Hot Apple Dumplin’---Aunt Polly made hers from scratch with flaky dough and a sun-ripened apple. We’re betting that Tom Sawyer really loved baking day at the house!
  • A Taste of Twain: Gingerbread and Ice Cream. To enjoy Mark Twain’s favorite dessert, just add lemonade!
  • Home for the Holidays: Sticks of cinnamon, wrapped in gingham…a cracking fire nearby. We invite you “Home for the Holidays” to enjoy the scents of hearth & home and your happy holiday memories.

Scent of the Month

($10.00 for a 12 oz country jar…while supplies last) Preorders ARE accepted

For future scents, we would like input from our candle customers so please feel free to make suggestions on scents that you would like to have or people/attractions that you would like to see us honor.

YOUR custom name and scent

For two local fundraisers, St Josephs Hospital’s Key Club event on October 7 and the Chamber of Commerce’s Showplace at Showcase on November 9, we have donated to the auction block the opportunity to name your Twain Country Candle scent, provide a personalized description of it, and to receive 24 of the 12oz jars for free. Start thinking about this opportunity now as it would certainly be a fun gift to give folks for Christmas. Any additional jars that the winning bidder wants would be at regular retail.
